Meet our September Volunteer of the Month: Rhonda Feuer – or Chef Rhonda to those who know her in our Food Finders classroom!

Rhonda has been teaching cooking classes in our education program since the spring of 2017, shortly after approaching our Education Coordinator, Abby, during a volunteer fair to ask about getting involved.

The reason for her request? Rhonda has been a Pampered Chef consultant for 26 years, an organization that has long-supported Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger relief organization, of which Food Finders is a member agency. Rhonda herself has supported Food Finders for many years as well. “It just seemed like a good fit,” Rhonda says of her desire to teach and volunteer.

In the classroom, Rhonda is best known for her willingness to go above and beyond in her own research for classes as we throw ideas her way. Her down-to-earth approach to cooking sets everyone who attends her classes at ease. Rhonda’s knack for making food accessible to folks is a gift and a blessing she shares with us. “I truly enjoy helping people with meal ideas and some fun food,” says Rhonda. “I know just enough to be dangerous, as I like to say!”

Some of Rhonda’s classes have featured tips on how to make noodles out of zucchini, varieties of chili recipes, using apples in about a dozen different ways and one of our favorites – quick pickling. With no experience ‘quick pickling’ before, we had the idea to use our garden veggies and herbs for a class on pickling, Rhonda not only researched a great method that created one of our most well-attended classes all year, but she even came in for a second day of pickling to help Abby use extra veggies before they went to waste!

In her small amount of spare time, Rhonda does enjoy baking and taking food to people unexpectedly, as well as spending time with her family – husband Bob and his therapy dog, Teddy, and her grown daughters Kayla and Steffanie – and two-year-old grandson Henry. Rhonda’s favorite foods? Chocolate and a good bread pudding!

Congratulations Rhonda, and thank you for all you do for our community with Food Finders!
