Volunteering at Food Finders

Without Volunteers, we cannot do what we do!
Volunteers are vital to our work in serving the community and we have many opportunities both community facing and behind the scenes. Visit our volunteer portal to sign up and view the calendar of available shifts.

Food Resource and Education Center

During these shifts, volunteers will:

  • Sort through donated non-perishable food items
  • Repackage bulk food items into family-sized portions
  • Bag produce into family-sized portions

Volunteers will receive training on their projects when they arrive.
Volunteers 13 and over are welcome, all volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a guardian. 

Morning Crew: 9-11 a.m. Tuesday-Thursday
Seniors Only Morning Crew: 9-11 a.m. on Mondays
Afternoon Crew: 1-3 p.m. on Mondays and selected days

Food Finders Fresh Market

At the Food Finders Fresh Market, your work as a volunteer during this shift may include:

  • Stocking shelves to ensure there is plenty of food available and that all food is safe for consumption.
  • Greeting neighbors as they arrive to explain how the pantry works, reminding them of COVID-19 safety protocols and connecting them with Food Finders staff for assistance with other resources.
  • Assisting neighbors as they shop to understand how the pantry works and find what they need.
  • Checking neighbors out at the end using our pantry point system.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing to ensure the pantry is a clean and safe environment
  • Pack food boxes for our home delivery program 

Volunteers will receive training on their projects when they arrive.
Volunteers 14 and over are welcome, all volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a guardian. 

Fresh Market Pantry Support:
10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday
10:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. on Fridays
Fresh Market Pantry Shifts:
Bonus First Shift: 12:45-2:45 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday
First Shift: 12:45-3:45 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 12:45-3 p.m. on Fridays, 9:45 a.m.-12 p.m. on Saturdays
Second Shift: 3:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 2:45-5 p.m. on Fridays, 11:45-2 p.m. on Saturdays
Fresh Market Project Crew:
5-7 p.m. on Thursdays

Warehouse

During this shift, volunteers will:

  • Sort through donated non-perishable food items, 
  • Repackage bulk food items into family-sized portions, 
  • Bag produce into family-sized portions. 

Volunteers will receive training on their projects when they arrive.
Warehouse Wednesday: 4:30-6:30 p.m. on selected Wednesdays

Frequently Asked Questions

Volunteer Expectations

If you are able to volunteer with us, please read through and adhere to the following volunteer expectations:

  • Volunteers must wear a mask. (If you have your own mask, please bring it with you.  If you do not have a mask, one will be provided when you arrive.)
  • Volunteers must sign a COVID waiver (provided through Volunteer Hub) when registering for each shift.
  • Volunteers must wear gloves while handling food. (We will provide gloves.)
  • Volunteers must maintain social distance as much as possible during volunteer projects.
  • Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a guardian.
  • Volunteers must inform the Volunteer Coordinator ([email protected]) if they develop any COVID-19 symptoms or tests positive for COVID-19 in the 14 days following their volunteer shift.  Without disclosing the identity of the volunteer, the Volunteer Coordinator will then inform the staff and any other volunteers who might have interacted with that individual while they were at Food Finders.

What to Expect

If you are able to volunteer with us, here’s what you can expect from Food Finders Food Bank staff:

  • Volunteer areas and the pantry will be cleaned and sanitized between each volunteer shift, according to CDC guidelines.
  • Staff will social distance as much as possible within our workspace.
  • FFFB will provide masks (to anyone who does not already have one), gloves, hand sanitizer, and hand-washing stations for all volunteer shifts.

Court Ordered Community Service

Food Finders welcomes non-violent offenders to complete their court-appointed community service hours with us. We do not accept charges involving violence or theft.
