Volunteer Manager

Position Overview: The Volunteer Manager – Fresh Market serves a vital role on FFFB’s Program’s Team leading our volunteer efforts at the Fresh Market food pantry on a day to day basis. The volunteer manager supervises the work of 30-45 volunteers per day who are instrumental in running the food pantry successfully and in alignment with the mission and values of the food bank. As a part of the volunteer team, the manager will assist with volunteer projects including food drives, outreach events and volunteer support needs to carry out the food bank’s programmatic goals.

The volunteer manager reports to the Assistant Director, Volunteer Engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities

90% Volunteer Management

  • Orient volunteers prior to the start of their shift to FFFB mission and values
  • Provide training to volunteers on tasks and duties for assigned projects or roles
  • Coordinate, monitor and troubleshoot activities and workflow of volunteers while serving at the Fresh Market, balancing demand for product with neighbor needs
  • Supervise volunteers during tasks/assignments and show/share responsibility for the overall Volunteer Experience at FFFB
  • Work closely with the Director – Programs & Client Services, Fresh Market Assistant, Inventory Manager and warehouse team to balance the flow of projects in and out of the Fresh Market
  • Supervise volunteer projects as assigned to lead volunteers to complete programmatic projects as they arise; such as Home Delivery Boxes, BackPack packing, etc.
  • Responsible for implementation of food safety as it pertains to the volunteer program
  • Responsible for accuracy of volunteer information in VolunteerHub, maintaining the volunteer database, tracking and reporting hours
  • Represent FFFB in a professional manner at community events, food drives, fundraisers, mobile pantries, tours, and off-site recruitment events as needed.

10% Warehousing

  • Assist with movement of product for volunteer projects
  • Assist with some inventory needs as it pertains to the volunteer program and projects

Required Education, Skills, and Experience

  • High School education required. Bachelor’s degree is prioritized.

  • Proficient with various computer programs including Microsoft Office
  • Strong conflict resolution skills
  • Valid Indiana driver’s license with an insurable driving record. (Vehicle ownership not necessary)
  • Serv Safe certification will be required after hire

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. The hours of this position directly correlate with the open hours of our Fresh Market pantry and are designed to best accommodate the needs of our clients and neighbors:

  • Sunday: Off
  • Monday: Off
  • Tuesday: 10 am – 7 pm
  • Wednesday: 10 am – 7 pm
  • Thursday: 10 am – 7 pm
  • Friday: 8:30 am – 5:30 pm
  • Saturday: 8:30 am – 2:30 pm

Physical Demands

This work is located in an office and warehouse environment. Physical activities necessary in the performance of this job include ability to: Sit at a computer workstation for up to 2 hours at a time, move throughout the 30,000 square foot warehouse and other food bank facilities in performance of duties, regularly bend, lift and carry up to 50 lbs.; conduct tours throughout our facilities on a regular basis; communicate in clear speaking voice in person, before large groups and over the phone; interpret instructions and questions when asked; and operate computer equipment, including typing/seeing.

Pay: $16.00 – $18.00 per hour
