Tammie Monger & Karen Springer are our Volunteers of the Month!
Self-described as the brains and the brawn when they’re teaching together in Food Finders’ classroom, Karen and Tammie are crowd favorites and as dependable as they come!
Karen has been volunteering in our Education Program for the past year and a half. Tammie has been volunteering with Food Finders since the summer of 2014, shortly after relocating to Lafayette. Tammie and Karen quickly became a dynamic duo in our classroom and kitchen, leading two of our Healthy Choices classes each month while also developing their own curriculum on topics such as healthier tailgating foods, meal prep tips and a cooking class highlighting the cuisine of Germany among many others. With Karen and Tammie, food is fun and good for you!
When they are not at Food Finders, Karen can be found sewing and volunteering with Read to Succeed, sorting books with the Friends of Tippecanoe County Public Library and serving in West Lafayette on the Global Fest Organizing Committee. Tammie loves to travel in her spare time and, in addition to volunteering with Heartford House’s child advocacy program and various committees with St. Lawrence Catholic Church, is frequently cooking for her family and friends.
Their favorite foods? Salmon, cheeseburgers and Arni’s pizza for Tammie and wheat bread and veggies for Karen!
Thank you for all you do for our program – and Congratulations, Tammie and Karen!
