In the summer of 2017, Mike Anderson was searching for a way to give back to the community. He heard about Food Finders and decided to try volunteering. He began serving in the clean room, sort room and in the pantry. The following spring, Mary Anderson began volunteering as well, serving in the pantry. They frequently volunteer as First Responders, answering a call-out for help in the pantry when there are not enough volunteers. Currently, the husband and wife duo have collectively volunteered for over 200 hours with Food Finders!
When asked why they volunteer at Food Finders, Mary and Mike described how their faith has called them to serve others. Having worked in social services for over 20 years, Mary has seen the impact of food insecurity. Together, the Andersons work to address food insecurity by volunteering at Food Finders and doing advocacy work through their church.
When asked if they have any advice for those who are considering volunteering at Food Finders, the couple stated the importance of “putting a face to the issues of hunger.” They encourage others to come volunteer and hear the stories of those facing food insecurity.
Thank you, Mike and Mary!
