Food Finders Food Bank announced that it has earned a national food safety certification from the American Institute of Baking, International (AIB). AIB accreditation and audits are internationally recognized as the most stringent in the food industry. To meet the highest standards for the safe handling and distribution of food, Feeding America has partnered with AIB to implement a member-wide, food safety auditing program for its 200 member food banks. Food Finders is a member of the Feeding America network of food banks.

The announcement was made by Food Finders Food Bank Executive Director, Katy Bunder who states, “The recognition verifies that Food Finders Food Bank is committed to the highest level of service to our Agency Partners, Program Partners, donors and the individuals we serve.”

The accreditation recognizes Food Finders Food Bank’s stringent practices in goods handling, outstanding food safety and sanitary working conditions and its exemplary training for employees and volunteers regarding proper handling of food products. Rigorous inspections and training are required of companies that receive this certification.

Bunder goes on to state that she was very proud of the team responsible for achieving the rating, Director of Operations, Jack Warner and Chief Financial Officer, Tawny Howe for spearheading the food bank’s efforts towards achieving this certification. The warehouse operations staff was instrumental in preparing for the inspection and takes their day-to-day responsibilities for ensuring food safety very seriously.

“As a storehouse for edible food, Food Finders recognizes our responsibility to the families we serve, the community and our food donors to ensure that the food we store and distribute to our partner agencies is safe,” said Bunder. “That responsibility is reflected in our goal to implement all of the standards set forth by AIB for the handling, storage and distribution of all perishable and non-perishable food that we receive.”

The food bank receives food from major retailers and wholesalers, farmers, the Retail Pickup Program, community food drive donations and USDA commodities. In recent years, many national vendors that produce or donate food are now looking to work with food banks that have earned an AIB certification.
