Local Disc Golf Club Is Freezin’ For A Reason: Hosts Winter “Ice Bowl” Tournament To Raise Money And Canned Goods For Lafayette Area Needy
The Wabash Disc Golf Club will be hosting its annual fundraising tournament at Lafayette’s Murdock Park on Saturday, January 28th at 10:00 am. The winter disc golf event is part of a national series called “Ice Bowl.” Designed to raise money and collect canned goods for local food banks, Ice Bowls have been held by disc golf clubs for over 25 years. This will be Lafayette’s 8th annual Ice Bowl with Food Finders of Lafayette as the beneficiary. Entry to the event is $25-$35 with a $5 discount for bringing at least five canned goods. The public can also donate canned goods and will receive one raffle ticket toward some great prizes for every five canned goods donated. Visit WabashDiscGolf.com for complete tournament information.
The Ice Bowl series began in Columbia, MO in January of 1987 as a way to get disc golfers more active in their sport in the dead of winter. Nine years later the charity aspect was added and the event has grown into a national series of tournaments which raised over $300,000 and more than 60 tons of food for food banks in 2016.
For the second year the Lafayette event will be part of a series of fundraising events called the Western Indiana Frozen Fundraiser Series (W.I.F.F.S.). The 2017 WDGC Ice Bowl will once again be a PDGA C-Tier Charity event. The Club’s goal in 2017 is to raise $1,000 in cash donations and 500 lbs of food for Food Finders Food Bank of Lafayette. Food Finders distributes over 7 million pounds of food annually to needy families and individuals in Tippecanoe and 15 surrounding counties.
The Wabash Disc Golf Club is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to improving and promoting disc golf in Greater Lafayette and surrounding areas. Visit www.WabashDiscGolf.com for more information.
